Parrot Weights

Parrots are very good at hiding any signs of illnesses, so by the time a bird appears ill, it is very ill. This is necessary for the survival of wild birds and for the survival of their flock. Weighing your bird on a regular basis is a sure fire way to keep an eye on their health and can prevent a small problem from becoming a bigger one.

A bird’s weight changes throughout the day. They are very light and their weight can jump dramatically before and after feedings. Weight can even lower considerably following the first dropping of the morning. This is a good time to establish a base weight. This is known as your bird’s “empty” weight.

The following list details the most common varieties of companion parrots with an average weight in grams, followed by minimum and maximum weights if available.
